IIST (ISRO) ADMISSION 2016 Notification

ADMISSION NOTICE 2016

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), a Deemed to be University and an autonomous body under Department of Space (DOS), Valiamala (Thiruvananthapuram city) offers a range of academic programmes, namely B.Tech., and M.Tech./M.S., doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in areas related to Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Chemistry, Earth System Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, Physics and Remote Sensing, with specific focus on space science and technology. 
IIST announces admission to the following undergraduate and dual-degree programmes for the academic year 2016-17, to eligible Indian citizens: 

4-Year B.Tech Programme in Aerospace Engineering (60 Seats)
4-Year B.Tech Programme in Avionics (60 Seats)
5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech. and M.S./M.Tech.) Programme (20 Seats)

Note-
The 5-year Dual Degree programme leads to B.Tech. degree in Engineering Physics and any of the following Post-Graduate degree specializations: (i) M.S. in Solid State Physics (ii) M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics (iii) M.S. in Earth System Science and (iv) M.Tech. in Optical Engineering. There is no exit option at the end of four years. 

Eligibility for Admissions to B.Tech. Programmes-

Citizenship-

Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for admission in IIST.

Date of Birth-

Candidates belonging to General category (GEN) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1991. 
Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must have born on or after October 1, 1986.
The date of birth as recorded in the high school/first Board /or its equivalent will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, candidate must submit an authenticated document from competent authority indicating the date of birth at the time of Counselling.

Qualifying Examination (10+2 or Equivalent)-

Candidates seeking admission to IIST should have passed their Qualifying Examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects of the curriculum Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure an aggregate of at least 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in the qualifying examination and those belonging to SC/ST/PD should have an aggregate of at least 60% marks in PCM subjects in the qualifying examination.

The qualifying examination should be any of the following:

The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi, etc.
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
Vocational Higher Secondary Examination.
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.

Marks scored in JEE(Advanced)-2016 Examination-

Candidates who are desirous to join the above mentioned academic programmes in IIST must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2016 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2016 conducted by IITs. They must also secure a minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2016 as given below:- 
(a)General (GEN) Candidates: At least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics , Chemistry and Mathematics). 
(b)Other Backward Community–Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Candidates: At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). 
(c)Scheduled Caste(SC), Scheduled Tribe(ST) & Persons with Disabilities(PD) Candidates: At least 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). 

IIST ADMISSION RANK LIST

Admission Rank list will be generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria. The IIST web portal for online registration will be opened in the month of June 2016. IIST Admission Rank list will be based on the JEE - 2016 All-India Rank list (including category rank) prepared and published by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) the week of June , 2016 . 

RESERVATION OF SEATS-

IIST follows the reservation policy of Government of India as applicable to Higher Educational Institutions for reservation of seats for various categories. 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE-

Each Semester, IIST provides Financial Assistance for students who meet the performance standards This assistance covers the expenses of education viz. Tuition Fee, Students Amenity Fee, Hostel charges including dining, Establishment charges and Medical needs. In addition, a Book Allowance of Rs.3000/- per semester is also provided to each student. 

ABSORPTION IN ISRO/DOS:

On successful completion of the academic programme, the students who meet the specified academic standards set by IIST, may be absorbed in DOS/ISRO as Scientists/Engineers, only to the extent of filling the vacancies announced by DOS/ISRO for IIST for the year of completion of the course. As performance based financial assistance is provided by DOS to the students of IIST, ISRO/DOS will have the first right to absorb them, subject to the human resource requirements of ISRO/DOS.
